THE REDEEMER UNIVERSITY School of Business is launching a new bachelor of business administration (BBA) in finance designed to raise up a generation of wise, technically excellent and spiritually grounded financial leaders. Rooted in the conviction that all financial resources are entrusted by God for Kingdom purposes, this program, once approved by the university senate, will prepare graduates to steward wealth and lead with excellence. Key features of this program include: student managed investment funds, a year-long paid co-op that serves as work experience for key financial designations, a student exchange (i.e. Oxford University, England) or mission trip (i.e. Brazil) and personalized professional mentorship with professional advisors-in-residence.

The BBA in finance integrates a biblical perspective with rigorous financial theory and applied practice. Students will develop deep expertise in financial planning, investment analysis, corporate finance and wealth management, portfolio management and risk and insurance strategy, while preparing to pursue respected industry credentials such as CFP®, QAFPTM, CFA® and, uniquely, the highly regarded Certified Kingdom Advisor® (CKA®) designation.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer the BBA in finance from a Reformed Christian perspective,” says Dr. Peter Neumann. “This is an exciting opportunity to expand Redeemer’s business offerings and prepare more students to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in the financial industry.”

Redeemer’s finance stream prepares graduates for high-demand careers, forming professionals who see their work as a calling–who understand wealth not merely as accumulation, but as a tool for human flourishing, generosity and redemptive influence.

“This is an exciting opportunity to expand Redeemer’s business offerings and prepare more students to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in the financial industry.”

The concentration includes a direct pathway toward the Certified Kingdom Advisors ® designation, making Redeemer the first university in Canada to intentionally integrate Kingdom Advisor coursework into an undergraduate degree. Students will be prepared to sit for CKA® testing and to serve clients through biblically faithful counsel, integrating technical financial expertise with spiritual discernment and stewardship principles.

“God owns everything, including our wealth,” says Dr. Sophia Kusyk, dean of business. “Our graduates will be prepared to advise with competence and conviction, guiding individuals, families and organizations to align their financial decisions with God’s purposes. This is about forming advisors who see wealth as a sacred trust.”

Canada is facing the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in its history and a wave of advisor retirements. National labour data projects tens of thousands of openings in financial planning and analysis over the next decade, driven by population aging, rising household wealth and increasing financial complexity.

Redeemer’s new program positions graduates to meet this demand with distinction, combining professional credentials, ethical formation and a clearly articulated theology of stewardship. Graduates will not only be technically proficient, they will be trusted guides capable of navigating complex financial landscapes with integrity and Kingdom vision.

Redeemer’s partnership with Kingdom Advisors also opens doors for practicing financial professionals across Canada. Through certification programming at the university, current advisors and wealth managers will be able to pursue the Certified Kingdom Advisor® designation at Redeemer, strengthening a national network of Christian financial professionals committed to biblically wise counsel and redemptive influence in the marketplace.

The School of Business envisions the establishment of an endowed faculty chair to lead the finance program, ensuring that Redeemer becomes a national hub for Christian finance and wealth management scholarship. This chair would advance research at the intersection of faith, finance and stewardship, and coordinate with Kingdom Advisors and other Christian finance professionals, while mentoring students who aspire to lead with excellence in the financial sector.

The finance program will remain deeply rooted in Redeemer’s liberal arts foundation, including eight to 10 interdisciplinary core courses that situate business within a Christian worldview. Students will graduate with technical competence, and the ability to think critically, communicate clearly, collaborate effectively and live out their vocation as part of God’s redemptive story.

The BBA in finance will welcome its first cohort of new students in fall 2026. Students already in the business program will be able to move into the finance stream in fall 2027.
