What does it mean to be a Redeemer Royal?

At Redeemer University, it’s more than just a game—it’s a calling. Athletics is a platform for spiritual formation, community and impact.

Every practice, game and conversation is an opportunity to live out our Vertical Purpose to direct all passion and performance upward to Christ.

We aim to develop Royals who are rooted in their identity in Christ, and from this foundation, they are empowered to pursue athletic success in a way that honours and glorifies his name above all. This is what it means to compete as a Redeemer Royal.

FAQ

Are tutors available for student-athletes?

Yes, free tutoring is available for all students through Learning Services. Student-athletes are encouraged to make use of the tutoring program to learn how to manage time efficiently and balance studies and sports.

How does being a student-athlete affect class attendance?

Student-athletes must prioritize academics over sport. If there is a practice scheduled during class time, you are required to attend class. Student-athletes may be excused from class for games but are required to make arrangements to catch up. For tests and midterms, student-athletes must fill out a sanctioned event form at least five days in advance so that Learning Services may arrange with you to write it at an alternate time. It is recommended that you be in regular communication with your professors regarding class and game conflicts, and to reach out to Learning Services if you are having difficulty keeping up in your courses.

How much travel should a student-athlete expect during the school year?

On average, a student-athlete may play between one and two games per week during their sport’s season (half on the road and half at home). During the offseason, practices will still be held weekly, but games are reduced in number (typically one exhibition game a week).

How many Royals sports can a student-athlete play?

A student-athlete may play on up to two sports teams (depending on academics, coaches’ requirements, season schedules and other factors). A primary sport will be indicated so that in the event of a scheduling conflict, student-athletes will be required to attend their primary sport’s game or practice.

Are there any athletic scholarships available for student-athletes?

Redeemer offers a variety of awards on an annual basis to incoming and returning student-athletes. For more information, visit the Student Awards page.
